Having recently undergone a refresh under new ownership, Nomad has reemerged on Auckland’s dining scene with quiet conviction. Occupying its corner of the neighbourhood since 2014, the 2026 incarnation is built around comfort food made for sharing, with a Mediterranean-influenced menu, and a wood-fired oven playing a starring role.

Equally accommodating to couples and larger groups, the dishes are designed for sharing. Begin with the crudo, where cured market fish is paired with coconut, chilli and almond, resulting in a dish that is fresh, creamy, with a touch of spice, and enough texture to keep each mouthful interesting.

The chargrilled spiced lamb rump is worthy of attention. Cooked over fire and served with romesco, pistachio and onion, it arrives smoky and deeply savoury, the richness of the meat sharpened by its accompaniments. It is exactly the kind of dish that belongs in the middle of the table, preferably alongside a few vegetable sides and another glass of wine.

The wood-fired pizzas are equally persuasive. The confit mushroom iteration layers enoki, gorgonzola, walnut and truffle over a blistered base, landing somewhere between earthy and indulgent without becoming overly heavy.

There is a comforting neighbourhood ease to Nomad. The food is definitely enticing, while the format remains relaxed enough for a spontaneous midweek dinner. More than a decade after opening, the new Nomad is definitely worth a visit.
