Sunday evening has a way of signalling the end of the weekend before Monday has technically arrived, and it was that familiar feeling that first gave No Monday Club its name.

Now open in Mt Eden, the new hospitality spot comes from four former Queens Rooftop colleagues, Maei, Johnny, Pramith and John, whose conversations about opening a place of their own gradually became more serious until they found the former De Nada site and decided to make it theirs.

The idea is deliberately broad. Rather than defining No Monday Club strictly as a café or restaurant, the founders see it as a space that can evolve around the things they enjoy most, from food and coffee to matcha, design and the simple pleasure of having somewhere good to spend an hour or two.

That same looseness carries through to the menu, where chefs Pramith and John draw on years of restaurant experience, including time spent working with Al Brown and across a number of well-known Auckland kitchens, to bring a more considered level of technique to brunch. The Nori XO seafood pasta introduces the Asian flavours that run through much of the offering, while the No Monday Breakfast sits alongside dishes such as lamb flatbread with poached egg and confit garlic sour cream, and the Turkish Sunrise with Turkish eggs, garlic yoghurt and toasted sourdough. A generous cabinet of pastries rounds things out for anyone after something simpler.

Drinks receive equal attention. Alongside a strong classic coffee offering, the signature Crème Brûlée iced coffee, Kinder Bueno Cloud and Salted Maple bring a more indulgent edge to the menu, with each also available as matcha.

Inside, much of the original De Nada space has been retained, with the existing bones adapted rather than completely reworked. The bar and seating have been refreshed, timber refinished and the rear brick wall reworked, while warm lighting and colour soften the industrial framework. From there, the four new owners have made the space their own, giving No Monday Club an identity that feels personal without becoming overly polished.

For Mt Eden, it is an appealing new addition: relaxed enough for coffee, substantial enough for brunch, and distinctive enough to warrant a return visit.
