Mario Bellini’s iconic Camaleonda sofa returns in a new limited edition

More than five decades after its debut, Mario Bellini’s Camaleonda remains one of the most recognisable sofas in design history. Now, B&B Italia is introducing an exclusive new edition of the cult classic.

Its generously rounded cushions, distinctive button-tufting and almost architectural proportions have made the Camaleonda a fixture in some of the world’s most compelling interiors. Equally at home in a dramatic, dark-walled library or a light-filled coastal residence, Mario Bellini’s celebrated sofa has an extraordinary ability to command a room without overwhelming it.

First designed in 1970, the Camaleonda was revolutionary for its modular construction. Rather than prescribing a fixed arrangement, Bellini conceived a system of generously upholstered square modules, connected by a clever arrangement of cables, hooks and rings. Seats, backrests and armrests could be rearranged almost endlessly, allowing the sofa to evolve alongside the spaces it occupied. Its distinctive, sculptural silhouette became synonymous with the expressive spirit of 1970s Italian design.

When B&B Italia reintroduced the Camaleonda in 2020, the original proportions and ingenious modular system were preserved, while its internal construction was updated with more sustainable materials. The result was a design that looked every bit as compelling half a century later.
