When a new Alhambra colour creates this much conversation, we consider trying it ourselves a necessity, particularly when it sells out on its first day in Auckland. Having secured the chance to try on the last available set, we discovered something compellingly unique about this much-discussed new addition to the coveted Alhambra range.
Crafted from translucent pink enamel and yellow gold, the new clover motifs have an intensity and luminosity that bring a distinctly different character to the familiar Alhambra. What surprised us was how beautifully the colour changed and adapted on each of us, shifting from rich raspberry to a brighter, clearer pink as the light passed through it, responding to our colouring and the clothes we wore. Which left us feeling as though each piece was unique to us alone. A necklace worn by one of us did not look the same on the other. This convinced us that we were essentially buying a one-of-a-kind piece, which is a very compelling proposition.
But it was the earrings that were the true standout; the translucence of the pink enamel allowed the colour to soften and change with every movement. Seeing first-hand what the new enamelling technique has brought to such an iconic and treasured collection was remarkable.
