The most eye-catching modern jewellery earns attention through proportion, movement and the way light catches it against the skin. Swarovski’s Global Creative Director, Giovanna Engelbert, drew on this intuition when creating the 26-piece Classica collection, designing for the everyday wardrobe rather than something simply reserved for special occasions.
Engelbert chose the calla lily’s elongated curve and sculptural poise as the starting point for her designs, translating the floral shapes into pendants, bracelets, rings and earrings formed along a single continuous line. Sterling silver from recycled sources sets a cool foundation, with select pieces finished in 18-karat gold, while the Swarovski Zirconia is set within each curve, catching and reflecting the light. The visual interest lies in the open floral forms, which hold space around the body while stones appear suspended in air, offset from the silver, or poised at the tip of a curve, giving each design a sense of motion. Worn singly, stacked or layered, they hold their own with ease. The resulting pieces are polished, feminine, pared back and made to be worn often.
