@NASA just made history. The Artemis II crew launc @NASA just made history. The Artemis II crew launched on April 1st on the first crewed mission to fly to the Moon in over 50 years, and in the early hours this morning, they completed their lunar flyby, passing closer to the Moon than any humans since Apollo 17 in 1972.

These images show the far side of the Moon, regions that are completely invisible from Earth. The processed version is the work of astrophotographer Franco (@terrazaalcosmos), who applied saturation techniques to reveal something remarkable: the Moon in colour.

Those hues aren’t what the human eye would see. They map variations in soil composition, minerals and metals across the lunar surface. Science and beauty, in the same frame.
