Set low among the gum trees of Hepburn Springs, Matchbox House is a compact retreat shaped by its rugged Victorian setting. Conceived by building designer Vincent Jarvis and realised with Jarvis Builds, the home pairs expansive glazing with a robust, bushfire-conscious exterior, creating a residence that feels immersed in nature.

Inside, burnished concrete, silver travertine and locally sourced spotted gum establish a richly textural palette. Brass accents introduce subtle polish, while the landscape is ever-present, reflected in glass, framed by windows and echoed in the home’s earthy tonal shifts. Here, it is Kett’s distinctly Australian furniture that brings these elements into harmony, adding softness, warmth and an essential sense of completion.

In the living room, the Erskine Modular Sofa anchors the open-plan interior. Its generous proportions and sculpted silhouette counter the architecture’s sharper lines, while deep green upholstery draws the muted colour of the surrounding bush indoors. The accompanying Erskine Coffee Table continues this dialogue through its restrained form and tactile timber finish.

The dining space is centred around Kett’s Johanna Elliptical Timber Table, its softly rounded profile encouraging an easy, convivial atmosphere. Paired with Otway Armchairs in olive leather, the setting feels grounded yet refined, with the chairs’ curved timber frames providing an elegant counterpoint to the home’s concrete and stone.

Beyond the glass, Kett’s Wye Dining Table and Wye Chairs extend the same considered language outdoors. Their flowing lines sit naturally against the unruly bushland, allowing the terrace to feel like a continuation of the interior rather than an addition to it.

Here, Kett’s furnishings do more than occupy the rooms. In their materiality, proportion and connection to the Australian landscape, they provide the details that resolve the home — transforming an architectural retreat into a place of genuine warmth and belonging.
