The Sheats-Goldstein Residence, designed by John L

The Sheats-Goldstein Residence, designed by John Lautner between 1961 and 1963, is a stunning example of organic modernism, blending concrete, wood, and glass. Originally built for Helen and Paul Sheats, it was later purchased by James Goldstein, who worked with Lautner and others to expand and refine its design. Featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a cantilevered roof, and an unbroken connection to nature, the home is both futuristic and deeply integrated into its hillside setting.

Goldstein’s vision extended to Club James, a private entertainment space built beneath the infinity tennis court. Continuing Lautner’s aesthetic with concrete, glass, and steel, the club features dramatic lighting and acoustics, seamlessly blending with the landscape. Today, the Sheats-Goldstein Residence remains a living architectural icon, admired by designers, artists, and cultural figures worldwide.
