Hidden within the colourful surrounds of St Kevins Arcade, Sagrado has quietly built one of the most devoted followings in Auckland dining. Named after the Spanish word for sacred, it began at the city’s night markets before settling into its permanent K’ Road home, where every tortilla is pressed from fresh nixtamal masa and cooked to order. The Lamb Birria Taco pairs slow-cooked New Zealand lamb with traditional Mexican chillies, the Carnitas Taco has been a favourite since the market days, and the Mole Negro takes a full five days to prepare from scratch. Colourful tables, Mexican artwork and an open kitchen keep the room lively, while adjoining mezcal bar Deza offers a moodier corner for those wanting to linger. Food as family, celebration and connection, exactly as intended.
