Bringing a slice of his time working in hospitality in Melbourne and Auckland to Hastings, Jesse Neilson has taken over the former Opera Cafe and revived it for the modern Hastings diner. The menu is extensive and stacked with perfectly executed classics — avocado toast with whipped feta and chilli crisp, marigold-hued, glossy scrambled eggs, and slow-cooked mince on toast — alongside inventive takes on brunch favourites, including pork belly fried rice topped with a crispy egg, brown butter crumpets with maple bacon, and Turkish eggs with dukkah.
