Born from co-owners Jade and Rafael’s time living in Colombia, Mijita brings a slice of Latin America to Havelock North. The warm, inviting space echoes hallmarks from the pair’s life in Filandia, with Peruvian rugs, Colombian artistry, and a tonal ochre ceiling. Tequila, mezcal, and pisco unsurprisingly sit at the heart of the impressive cocktail menu, with inspired twists on classics like a pisco sour made with cinnamon syrup and rhubarb bitters, a mojito reworked with açaí, and an espresso martini given an indulgent hit thanks to dulce de leche. Food toes a similar line, with guacamole and tacos sitting alongside aji de gallina — a traditional Peruvian chicken stew — and ceviche with leche de tigre.
