There has been something of a trend recently of young Kiwis taking over iconic casual eateries and takeaways, ushering this cornerstone of New Zealand cuisine into a new era. That’s the bill at Leigh Eats, where two couples took on this community favourite with over five decades of history and gave it a modern spin. The interiors are bold, fresh and defined by cobalt blue and cherry red branding, while the menu keeps true to chip shop classics of classic, golden fish and chips, superlative burgers and the prerequisite bits from the fryer, with a few new additions thrown in for good measure. The more health conscious among us will make a beeline for the grilled snapper salad.
