There is something incredibly special about a chef who cut their teeth at some of the best kitchens in the country, bringing that talent to a pared-back menu, cooking classic dishes to an exceptional level. That’s the ticket at Goldie’s, where Grant Soeberg, whose experience includes Elephant Hill, The French Cafe and Black Estate, is dishing up refined comfort food on Napier’s Dalton Street. There are elements of fusion here, seen in dishes like beef tartare tostada with kimchi ketchup and roasted celeriac with makhani sauce and tamarind chutney, alongside classic dishes like cacio e pepe and a chicken schnitzel sandwich that is already becoming a thing of local legend.
