Che Viet
“A taste of Hue that the CBD has been quietly waiting for”

The sister eatery to Vie on Shortland Street, Che Viet brings the distinctive flavours of central Vietnam to a tucked-away spot inside Chancery Square. Owner Angela Nguyen, a native of Hue, has built a menu around regional dishes that are genuinely difficult to find elsewhere in Auckland, sourcing key ingredients directly from Vietnam. This is not another phở-and-bánh-mì operation. The kitchen leans into the bold, spice-driven character of Hue’s cuisine, with traditional favourites sitting alongside a considered list of Vietnamese desserts and sweets. The intimate setting suits the food’s personality, and there is a warmth to the service that makes the room feel more like a personal introduction to Vietnamese home cooking than a restaurant transaction.
