Elevated Chinese fare is now on offer in the Federal Street precinct.
There are several delicacies you can’t afford to miss when visiting Shanghai; soup dumplings, stir fried noodles and the region’s famous Peking duck to name a few. However, given Auckland’s close connection to Asia, you might expect to find lofty iterations of the above more readily available at home.
Thankfully, SKYCITY has collaborated with acclaimed chef Nic Watt (of Masu and True Food & Yoga) to create a sophisticated Chinese restaurant with a bit of theatre to boot. Bringing a deliciously authentic taste of Shanghai-style fare to town, the new Federal Street restaurant, Huami, is at once traditional and modern. Nestled amongst the SKYCITY complex, head chef Jeff Tan’s experience working in some of the finest kitchens in Asia and the Middle East shines through in regional delicacies from Peking duck, hand-crafted dim sums and an array of sustainably sourced seafood that you can select from the aquatic, two-tiered feature wall.
Aside from plate after plate of enticing Asiatic fare, the new restaurant plays on Shanghai’s European influence. Drawing upon nuances of the French Concession, thematically dressed bar staff are on hand to shake up delicious vintage cocktails and pour from a hefty selection of Cognac and Armagnac. The wine selection, curated by master sommelier Cameron Douglas, is nothing to be sniffed at either.
Set to open its doors for lunch and dinner this Saturday, we imagine Huami’s impressive ambience becoming our go-to for elevated Asian fare whether it be for a bustling Saturday night or a soul-warming Sunday afternoon in the city.
