This hot toddy recipe will see you through the winter nights

Given the recent spout of sickness that seems to have taken quite a few people down (and the onset of Man Flu that has made itself known) we thought it would be appropriate for you to arm yourselves with some sound advice — or rather, a delicious recipe — that should see you through the winter days and nights in comfort. Enter, the hot toddy. A steamy combination of whisky, spice, lemon and honey that will make for the perfect answer to your woes.

Ingredients (makes 1 mug)
1 tsp honey
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 tea bag (we used a sleep remedy tea)
1 shot whisky
Boiling water
1 star anise
1 stick cinnamon
3 cloves
2 cardamon pods
1 thumb of ginger, bruised

Place honey, lemon juice, tea and whisky in a mug and top with boiling water. Stir gently to dissolve the honey before adding the spices and ginger (bruising or smashing to unleash their potency). Steep for 1-2  minutes before straining, or for a stronger brew, allow spices to stay and infuse further with time.

*It’s easy to fall deeply for these heartwarming elixirs, but be careful not to combine them with your regular cold medicine as it’s likely to bring on unwanted dehydration (basically a hangover), which you could probably do without under the circumstances.
