Whether you’re looking to take mum out for a special lunch or an intimate dinner, these are the places to book now to show your mum (or the person who has fulfilled that role) just how much you love and appreciate them.
Soul Bar & Bistro
Show Mum some love by booking a table for dinner at this Viaduct Harbour hotspot on Mother’s Day. In celebration of the most important women in our lives, Soul will be offering a special three-course menu with dishes like truffle and cheese doughnuts with gruyère cheese sauce, prawn and saffron risotto with nduja and lime, and passionfruit curds with pistachio meringue. At only $65 per person, it’s hardly surprising that Soul’s lunchtime spots are already fully booked, so if dinner is on the cards, we suggest securing your table sooner rather than later.
Esther at QT
Treat the most important woman in your life to a Mediterranean feast at the QT Auckland. Between 11am and 2pm on Mother’s Day, the hotel’s lauded restaurant Esther is offering a three-course, set menu of designed-to-share dishes from $99 per person. From starters like taramasalata and baked saganaki to mains like Te Anau saffron llnguine and Leigh line-caught snapper and a suite of tasty desserts to finish, the food is set to be a seriously delicious affair and if all that wasn’t enough, Mum will be treated to a crisp flute of Sgroppino on the house.
Remuera’s newest hot-spot is offering a delightful lunch experience for mum with a $65-per-head, three-course, set menu. Comprising a line-up of delicious dishes like a spicy braised lamb with flatbread, hung yoghurt and dukkah, a spinach pie with goat feta, filo, toasted walnuts and brown butter and a mushroom risotto with mascarpone and pecorino, this is promising to be one tasty affair. End lunch on a high note with a serving of Siso’s decadent tiramisu or upgrade the experience to $80 per-person to enjoy a crisp glass of Perrier-Jouët Champagne with your meal.
Azabu Ponsonby & Mission Bay
Mother’s Day at Azabu is promising to be a tasty affair, with both the Ponsonby and Mission Bay locations putting on special Omakase set menus for lunch and dinner. (Not usually open for lunch, Azabu Ponsonby will be making an exception for the occasion.) Designed by chef Yukio Ozeki, the menu is promising a line-up of delectable Asian dishes and delicate, flavoursome bites and will prove the perfect way to mark this special day.
Celebrate the day with a delectable Mother’s Day lunch at the Park Hyatt’s lauded restaurant, Onemata. Offering a three-course experience with a glass of Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve NV for $95 per person, this waterfront dining spot is the place to be this Sunday (and its tables are filling up fast). On the menu, dishes like wok-roasted Brussels sprouts with smoked bacon jam and nori hokey pokey and cauliflower caponata with Dusty Apron sourdough, sit alongside ones like purple kumara ravioli with braised short ribs, and a divine coastal spring lamb. Dessert is set to be a tantalising affair too with diners able to choose between a citrus roulade, a dedadent chocolate bar or a raspberry and burnt-buttermilk creation.
Lobster & Wagyu
There’s nothing like a high tea to really give a special occasion the kind of pomp and ceremony it deserves. As such, Lobster & Wagyu’s special, Mother’s Day high tea is set to be one of the best ways to treat Mum this Mother’s Day. For $75 per person, enjoy a crisp flute of Moët Rosé followed by a line up of delicious bites to choose from, including Lobster & Wagyu’s famous Wagyu katsu sando, a mini hot buttered lobster roll, a mini classic lobster roll and a mini chop salad. End the afternoon on a high note with a selection of sweet treats and vanilla scones with jam.
Euro Bar and Restaurant
From 12pm until 4pm on Mother’s Day, Euro will be putting on a special, three-course menu, and it’s set to be a doozy. Starting with a crisp flute of Mumm ‘Grand Cordon’ Champagne, diners will be treated to dishes like Yellowtail kingfish with coconut, finger lime, taro and coriander, succulent Hawke’s Bay lamb neck, fresh market fish with hassle back potatoes and a Chocolate crostata with Valrhona Manjari chocolate fondant, salted caramel mousse and Koko Samoa. This is one you don’t want to miss out on.
Celebrate Mum and all she does at this Herne Bay favourite, where a specially-designed, three-course menu will be available from 12pm until 5pm for $95 per person. Diners will enjoy a glass of Champagne Mumm Rosé on arrival before being invited to indulge in a menu where they can choose from dishes like burrata with confit leek, walnut cream and crostini, risotto with mushroom and truffle, First Light wagyu picanha and of course, Andiamo’s famous truffle fries and tiramisu.
Who doesn’t love a beautiful bouquet of flowers on Mother’s Day? For this special occasion, Britomart restaurant Kingi has partnered with local florist Isadia Floral who will have beautiful bouquets for sale in the laneway adjoining the restaurant and The Hotel Britomart. Kingi will have its full, delicious a la carté breakfast menu available, and you can reserve both your table and a bouquet from Isadia by booking through Kingi’s website.
One of our favourite waterfront spots, Botswana Butchery will be offering its famous hospitality and indulgent à la carte menu this Mother’s Day and will even be popping bottles of Champagne Mumm for only $99 to mark the occasion. The Engine Room
