It was almost year ago that The Hunting Lodge was titivated into a sparkling new venue and cellar door by the Sutton family. Now booked out for weddings and frequented for wine tastings, the landmark address is resurrecting one of the original strings to its bow, a restaurant in the property’s historical villa. At the helm of the operation is the acclaimed Des Harris (ex Clooney) who will be putting a refined touch on the completely revamped all-day eatery, scheduled to open this weekend.
With a menu of fine European fare set to delight visitors, it comes as little surprise that we hear the place is, for the most part, booked out till Christmas. The menu boasts items like arugula risotto with whipped stracciatella and parmesan shortbread; buttered pappardelle with pork sausage, fennel and Medjool date (pictured); roasted red deer loin with celeriac, beetroot, morcilla and chocolate. And knowing Harris’ hallmark ingenuity, each dish, whilst homely and familiar, will boast an exceptionally inventive twist.
With Wednesday nights taking on the duty of being ‘Locals Night’ with a menu that changes weekly, it appears The Hunting Lodge will cater equally to locals and Aucklanders from further abroad. To find out more, click here.
