Renowned for bringing a slice of sunny Blenheim (as well as all of the region’s most delicious exports) to Auckland, Cloudy Bay’s ever-popular Sail Away pop-up is returning to the big smoke at an enticing new destination — City Work’s Depot’s Odettes.
With few better places ripe for a summer takeover than the eatery’s expansive courtyard area, Cloudy Bay will transform the space to make way for a temporary, bespoke menu — designed by Odettes Head Chef Jonah Huang — that will hero local ingredients and complement the extensive range of Cloudy Bay wines that will be on offer. Warm natural timbers and greenery will be added to the steel pergola structure to establish an aesthetic reminiscent of the vineyard’s own guesthouse, fondly named ‘The Shack’.
The menu, we’ve heard, will feature an array of fresh and cooked seafood delicacies (think Cloudy Bay clams and oysters, Marlborough Salmon and kawakawa) as well as tantalising ingredients like venison pastrami with lavender creme, goat’s cheese and fig salami. Further to the stunning seasonal dishes and their respective wine matches, guests will be able to shuck their own oysters — a play on the importance of foraging from nature — under Huang’s watchful eye. What’s more, to lure in the brunch crowd, the adept bar team has helped craft two brunch cocktails for the duration of the pop-up featuring Cloudy Bay Pelorus and Pelorus Rosé.
Setting the pace for all the festivities to come (…need we remind you that silly season is just around the corner) visitors to the pop-up can also expect live entertainment on the weekends. Sailing away with Cloudy Bay might never have looked more enticing.
Cloudy Bay Sail Away will run from 1st-17th November with sessions running between 3-6pm from Thursday – Saturday. To celebrate, we’re giving away a tasting experience for two people. To enter, click here.
