Cloudy Bay’s Pinot Noir Tasting Trail is back, and this year, it has a new game plan

Following the opening of its stunning new Cellar Door in Cromwell mid last year — The Cloudy Bay Shed, Cloudy Bay is continuing to entice us with its sophisticated offerings, and this year’s Pinot Noir Tasting Trail is no exception.

Now in its fifth iteration, Cloudy Bay’s iconic, nationwide food and wine tasting series starts today (15th May) and is treating gourmands across the country to a comprehensive, immersive experience. Dubbed the Pinot & Game Tasting Trail, this year’s offering is seeing Cloudy Bay invite us to partake in the pairing of game dishes with its renowned pinot noirs — a delightfully warming combination for winter.

Set to showcase New Zealand’s superior food and wine expertise and timed perfectly with the game season, Cloudy Bay’s unique trail will comprise a number of restaurants showcasing delectable, original and creative dishes. Shining a light on game meat the dishes will be made all the more delicious when accompanied by Cloudy Bay’s 2016 Pinot Noir (from Marlborough) or the acclaimed 2016 Te Wahi Pinot Noir (Cloudy Bay’s own version of a Central Otago Pinot). And considering that game really shines when paired with slightly more acidic wines (to cut through the meat’s earthy flavours), it would seem these reds will provide a perfect match.

Fourteen renowned chefs will partake in this year’s Pinot & Game Tasting Trail, including from the likes of Prego, Ampersand Eatery and Oyster & Chop, each curating their own appetizers to bring out the best flavours in the game when paired with Cloudy Bay’s pinot. And with so much culinary expertise on offer, this year’s trail is sure to have something to suit any taste or proclivity.

Running from today (15th May) until 30th of June, this year’s trail will offer a chance for anyone unfamiliar with game meat to sample some of the best in the country and see why finding the perfect wine pairing will make all the difference between a good dish and a great one.
