Ice Ice Baby — Auckland’s pop-up ice skating rink returns this winter

Urban ice rinks are the sort of thing that conjure romantic imagery of fairy-tale winter cities, lacing up one’s skates to the backdrop of the Rockefeller Centre’s Christmas Tree or Paris’ stunning Hôtel de Ville. Thankfully, Auckland’s doing its doing its bit to join the ranks with the return of Paradice Ice Skating’s rink to Aotea Square, running from 15th June until 22nd July.

Undergoing a wintry makeover for its seventh year now, the covered ice rink will be accompanied by two light podiums in celebration of Matariki. Known to attract more than 20,000 people each year, the pop-up attraction also offers a programme of special events and themed weekends that will no doubt be a hit with the kids. Not only that, but an eye-catching installation named Mountain of Life by Angus Muir will transform the Square, adding to the icy atmosphere.

The Aotea Square Ice Rink will be open seven days a week from 10am till 10pm.
