Exhibition: Portholes into Nature

Witness the new works of a talented local artist recently returned from exhibiting internationally.

Keeping busy since returning from exhibiting in Santa Monica, multidisciplinary artist Hannah Jensen is about to unveil her latest collection at Auckland’s Allpress Gallery. Having showcased her works both locally and internationally, this event presents an opportunity to be charmed by a rising talent who’s sparking interest offshore. Transporting viewers to an exotic paradise with a fresh and vibrant aesthetic, 30 new works will be shown at a preview evening alongside mouth-watering morsels by Cafe Hanoi’s Head Chef Nathan Houpapa, paired with Odyssey wines.

Nominated for a Mazda Emerging Artist award in 2004, Jensen’s unique approach involves applying layers upon layers of paint (sometimes up to 75) to board before she employs her adept intaglio (printmaking) techniques, etching and carving into the paint to reveal detailed negative relief renderings which eye-catchingly pop from the piece’s substrate.

Along with preparing for her imminent exhibition, producing commissioned work and various philanthropic ventures, Jensen participated for the second year running in The Big Egg Hunt with the ‘Ode to the Peony’, auctioned off at the Auckland Museum last week.

The exhibition has now finished.
