Dog walk dating

"Matching happens by magic, and friend-dating is the future of speed-dating."

For those blissfully unaware, allow us to be the harbingers of Valentine’s Day. Whether you buy into the commercial aspect of it or not, February 14th is just around the corner and it has an uncanny knack of making us reflect rather heavily on the status quo of our romantic affairs. Thankfully, a novel approach to speed-dating has piqued on our radar this week, one that uses dogs as the effective social lubricant they are.

Taking place at the Basement Theatre from tonight through till the evening of Saturday February 6th, this speed-dating/dog-walking hybrid affair is suited to any and all dog lovers who want to meet new people. With a modest stable of dogs patiently waiting, and BYOD (bring your own dog) heavily encouraged, these canine-centric mixers are taking place from 7.30-9.30pm, or perhaps even later if you hit the romantic jackpot.

The friendly team will be greeting people outside the Basement Theatre’s bar, introducing both dogs and daters. Donor dogs will be available to take for walks of about 20 mins each and the event is open to anyone from singles of any orientation, to those looking to friend-date, or even established couples who are in search of a laid-back kind of socialising.

Tickets are $20 and include a free drink from the Basement bar. That said, you’re not going to offend anyone by just turning up. Thanks to sponsors Nutrience, there’ll be plenty or sustenance for the pups, and also the ones providing human refreshment: Brothers Beer, Sawmill Brewery and Niceblocks. Buy your tickets here.
