Happy Father’s Day dad. Got my wild & tough from you, my fight & my fire. I’m sorry for the bikini pics & I appreciate the reminders upon posting them that ‘I am not Kim Kardashian’ because sometimes I do get her & me mixed up. As an apology I won you a trip to Huka Lodge in a McLaren. You first went there in 96 with Joan Collins as her bodyguard. Now you’re going as a grandfather but you’re still a badass. Ra & I adore you. @denizenmagazine @hustlebustle @mclarenauckland @hukalodge
Dads — they make awkward jokes, think they can do anything a tradie can do and are notoriously hard to buy for. Even when you ask them point blank what they want, answers usually range from ‘I don’t know’ to ‘nothing,’ or the painful ‘just some socks and undies’ (yawn). I’ve bought my dad so many socks and undies over the years he could open a store, so the thought of Father’s Day rolling around again is downright exhausting.
This year, however, we have an amazing opportunity on offer for one lucky Denizen dad. The sort of gift he’ll never ever forget — and one that will probably let the giver off the hook for all subsequent Father’s Days for the foreseeable future. For starters, Dad will be placed behind the wheel of the sleek McLaren 570s from McLaren Auckland for three days. Arguably, the supercar of all supercars, the $369,000 vehicle is a seriously impressive feat of engineering, designed to provide the ultimate driving experience. With three modes: normal, sport and track, Dad can fulfil his boyhood dream of being a racecar driver (it goes from 0 to 100km/h in a mindblowing 3.2 seconds) or lower the retractable, hard-top roof while leisurely making his way down to one of New Zealand’s premier accommodations, Huka Lodge, for a luxurious mini-escape.
The two-night stay in a Junior Lodge Suite caters for two guests and will include pre-dinner drinks and canapés, a five-course degustation dinner and a country-style breakfast. In addition, Dad can get his fix of the outdoors with a two-hour, private fly-fishing lesson on the lawns of the Lodge. To top it all off, he will receive a $1,000 voucher to spend at Rodd & Gunn so he can finally shed those distinctly dad-like trousers he’s been rocking since the 90s (and maybe buy some of his OWN socks and undies for a change). The whole prize is valued at over $13,000 — a number he won’t be seeing on a gift voucher anytime soon.
It is, without a doubt, the ultimate escape for any dad who loves sports cars, fine cuisine and breathtaking scenery. Just think about how smug you’ll feel giving this to the old man ahead of your siblings’ vouchers and novelty boxers — but also how much he’ll truly appreciate it. For all their faux-pas, we do love our goofy dads, and this is the perfect way to show it.
