Karen Walker opens a playful summer pop-up

Where better to start the Christmas shopping than at a literary salon?

Bringing together four of the finer things in life — fashion, books, tea and cake — Karen Walker’s Playpark Summer 2017 is set to be a shopping experience unlike any before. Primed to take over the brand’s Newmarket store from this Saturday 4th November, the whimsical pop-up will see Walker join with New Zealand’s oldest family-run booksellers, Hedleys Books, to open a ‘literary salon’.

An inviting space where shoppers are invited to peruse and purchase an eclectic range of books, there will be 110 titles in total — in honour of the Wairarapa Bookseller’s astounding 110 years in business. Curated by Walker and David Hedley, the selection encompasses all of their favourites, from fantasy to non-fiction, with plenty of limited edition treasures to be found. Standouts include a copy of Vogue: Voice of a Century that has been personally stamped by Mario Testino, and signed copies of Transformer by Mick Rock and the late Lou Reed.

Furthering the fantastic, there will also be seasonally inspired tea from Storm & India and sweet treats from The Caker to keep guests pleasantly satiated every Saturday. A relaxing way to ease into your Christmas shopping or just while away a few hours in peace, why not give the literary salon a look in?
