The kids concept store bringing Scandinavian childrenswear to Ponsonby

Kid's got attitude? They'll love this new concept store.

Childrenswear is Jackie Kulak’s thing. As a former Londoner, she worked in the European capital as a stylist before launching her brand, Cute Graffiti, which exhibited in markets there and in Paris. Several years later, Kulak and her family made the move to New Zealand where, with the help of her husband Marcin, she realised her dream of opening a childrenswear store, Grey + Wild.

Many parents of well-dressed little tykes will already know of the boutique by way of its original outpost located in Takapuna. Grey + Wild has carved out a name for itself for offering a unique selection of both Scandinavian and local marques for tots aged 0-13. The former category gives way to Swedish brand Mini Rodini, whose ultra-graphic prints are known to sell out and subsequently reach ‘collectable’ status. Then there’s BangBang Copenhagen where each piece of clothing is like a miniature work of sartorial art. With bits and bobs from local makers alike, there’s something for all occasions and it’s all got attitude.

“I wanted to bring something different to the market here. We’re all about independently produced labels,” Kulak explains. With a belief that the principle of avoiding fast fashion should apply to childrenswear too, almost everything stocked at Grey + Wild is organic if not of the best possible quality. With this world of possibilities now available at the new store on Ponsonby’s Mackelvie Street, we suggest parents (and young ones) drop by to see what the fuss is about.
