The organic festival we’re visiting this weekend

Composting classes, beekeeping lessons and foraging workshops are the order of the day at this family-friendly festival.

Right in the heart of Ponsonby, Kelmarna Gardens is the unexpected city farm and organic community garden we love to wander through. Home to veggie plots, beehives, a worm farm, chooks, livestock and resident pony, Jafa, the community trust-run project is dedicated to creating a healthy environment that promotes sustainable living. Sharing those philosophies with the rest of us this Sunday 26th March, the organic community is once again hosting its annual Autumn Fundraising Festival.

A day to learn something new or just enjoy the outdoors in a more unconventional manner, the yearly gathering slots comfortably into the ‘something for everyone’ category. Orphans Kitchen will be there putting on a rustic backyard barbecue, Bread & Butter will be dishing out the baked goods, and kombucha, coffee, raw treats and juices will be in abundant supply. With live music, workshops encompassing everything from fermenting food to composting and foraging as well as a ‘KidsZone’ for all the budding green thumbs, it’s a weekend outing to diarise, STAT.

Helping to raise the crucial funds needed to allow the trust to continue the incredible work it does in the gardens and the wider community, you can see more on the festival via the Facebook page, here.
