dry & tea

A new blow dry bar and teahouse brings affordable luxuries to Newmarket.

The secret weapon of many a well coiffured head, Louise Pilkington is no stranger to the glamorous set. From running her own salon in Ponsonby under the Servilles banner, to jetting off to help create the hair looks at international fashion shows for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Pilkington knows a thing or two about taming lavish locks and creating head turning up dos.

Pilkington’s latest venture has recently opened its doors in Auckland’s Newmarket. Designed by Nat Cheshire from Cheshire Architects, Dry & Tea is a blow dry bar and teahouse that’s the perfect spot for a quick pick me up.

Dry & Tea’s on site stand alone teahouse prepares utterly delicious teas from the organic T2 range. We recommend you try the divine French Earl Grey, a full-bodied fruity take on the classic that will leave you wanting more. Accompany your pot of tea with one of their freshly baked cakes and scones (served as they should be with cream and jam). One can enjoy their refreshments in the teahouse, outside in the beautifully lush garden (thanks to the handiwork of landscaping company Second Nature), or take your tea while you indulge in a blow dry.

The Dry Bar offers a range of services that start at an incredibly affordable $25 for an Express Salon Finish where the clean and dry hair you arrive with will be given a quick 15 minute joosh by a professional, leaving you looking salon fresh.

In need of a good blow dry? Dry & Tea offers a wash and dry for a mere $40 for short to medium length hair and $50 for longer hair – it’s the perfect precursor to a night on the town. And if you’re looking for an ultra glam up do for a special occasion, there’s the Catwalk & Party option priced between $65 and $95 dependant upon how ‘up’ you want your ‘do’ to be.

Not surprisingly Pilkington has the recipe just right here, Dry & Tea is a pretty spot, a welcome sanctuary where you can take a moment out from your crazy life, and indulge in a little well deserved pampering.

Affordable luxuries are the new black after all.
