york street mechanics
We discover an easy going café in amongst the Newmarket shops.
Seasoned shoppers will know all too well the worn out, achy leg feeling that goes hand in hand with any decent shopping trip. Which is why we were happy to discover York Street Mechanics on our recent foray through Newmarket, Auckland. Tucked away on a small side street behind the main Broadway strip, we were lured in by the welcoming mermaid printed on the glass outside and the smell of a wood fire burning.
Housing a motorcycle workshop out the back and a café out the front, this is an expansive space with motorcycle paraphernalia littered throughout. All sorts of seating options are available; from roomy leather armchairs nestled around the fireplace to sunny breakfast bar seating and larger tables for more boisterous groups. While we only had time for coffees, we did look longingly at the all-day menu, which appeared to have numerous options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a selection of freshly squeezed juices and milkshakes served in old school metal cups.
A relative newcomer to the Newmarket area, we are sure more weary shoppers like ourselves will find a welcome respite in this easy going, back alley haven.
