Dan Freeman, a.k.a the dessert maestro behind 100 Acre Food’s devastatingly good dessert degustations is launching yet another ephemeral venture, a taco one. Entitled Vamos Tacos, Freeman ensures us that he and his team (namely his Burger Burger colleague, Head Chef Brandon Harper) will be spearheading a taco pop-up once a month with the eventual aim to find a permanent space.
Starting on 22nd April (this Saturday) at Fort Greene in St Kevins Arcade, Freeman cites his taco zeal as a welcome departure to the burgers he used to flip at the self-titled Ponsonby Central sensation. “We always made tacos for staff meals so we started developing different recipes and pairing great ingredients to come up with some simple tasty tacos,” he says.
The resulting offering will comprise four different taco flavours: pork, beef, chicken and veggie alongside some simply delicious sides (truffle fries with your choice of coriander aioli or chipotle mayo; pork scratchings with Paprika salt). With a firm belief that there’s an opening in the market for a taco pop-up in this style, punters are promised a casual atmosphere of standing around high tables, devouring tacos with a beer in hand, or just taking them away — not the formal setting of most eateries.
Kicking off at 6pm, check out Vamos’ Instagram account @vamostacosnz for more.
