the big red dinner
The charming Huka Lodge gets ready to host a winemaker’s dinner like no other.
When the country’s grandest luxury lodge sets the date for one of their legendary winemaker dinners, it’s only natural that we sit up and take note. With an ever expanding list of awards that continually cement its place amongst the world’s greatest hotels, Huka Lodge has somewhat of a pristine reputation for spoiling its guests, whether they are of celebrity status or not.
On Saturday 11 August, the lodge will host their annual winter dining event, the Big Red Dinner, hosted by the founder of Stonyridge Vineyard, Stephen White. The Waiheke Island vineyard produces the globally revered Larose, one of the finest cabernet blends in the world. For the evening, White will collaborate with Executive Chef Michel Louws to create a stellar menu of truly memorable cuisine to match his equally impressive wines.
Because Huka Lodge never does anything by halves, the dinner is included in the lodge’s regular tariff, which includes pre-dinner drinks, accommodation and a full country-style breakfast. Not to mention the ‘your wish is our command’ mentality of the staff. We cannot think of a better way to spend a wintery weekend than swilling fine wine and feasting on Louws culinary creations, followed by some fly fishing, leisurely strolling about the lodge’s riverside lawns or dozing by the blazing log fire.
The Big Red Dinner will be held on Saturday 11 August. If you would like to make a reservation to stay with Huka Lodge and enjoy this culinary feast, email [email protected].
