signature dish: spaghetti & meatballs

We find it hard to pass up this traditional Italian dish on Auckland’s most infamous strip.

With the cooler months firmly upon us, we’re on the look out for warm comforting spots with bustling atmosphere and generously proportioned, delectable food. One of our favourites is K’Road establishment Coco’s Cantina, renowned for serving classic bistro fare.

Head chef Kyle Barton’s take on traditional spaghetti & meatballs is one of our go-to winter warmers.  Coupled with a slow-roasted cherry tomato sauce and parsley, this dish is so popular it’s been on their menu since the restaurant opened. It is bound to leave even the most ravenous of patrons utterly satiated. What’s the secret to Barton’s delicious dish? Good old deep-frying of the meatballs to preserve the flavour of the beef.

Washed down with the perfect winter accompaniment: a glass of the Alpha Domus ‘The Barnstormer’ Syrah 2010 from the Hawkes Bay.
