mexico takapuna

Set to be as lively as its sister restaurant, Mexico opens its doors in Takapuna.

The North Shore has been garnering some serious attention recently, and it’s about to get even more. Those already acquainted with Mexico in Britomart will be happy to know they’re spreading the Mexico love, and taking up prime position beside the new hospitality precinct, The Commons, in Takapuna.

Headed up yet again by District Dining’s talented Mimi Gilmour, Javier Carmona and decorating genius Brendan Ryan, Mexico Takapuna’s interior continues the eclectic, bric-a-brac feel of its downtown sister, but in a more expansive space. Designer Nat Cheshire transformed the two levels, with an upstairs room to accommodate large groups that book ahead (something that you cannot do in the current restaurant) while downstairs houses intimate tables for smaller groups, a spacious bar area and outdoor seating that will spill out onto the terrace.

You can also rest assured that all of Mexico’s favourite dishes will be gracing the menu. The tamarind margaritas, ceviche and soft tacos are sure to be equally as popular on the shore, especially come summer when we’re all craving a cold drink and a fresh delicious meal after a long day spent at the beach. And parents will be pleased to know that they’ve developed a special menu just for the kids.

Mexico will open its doors to the public this Friday at noon. With the weekend just around the corner we can’t think of a better way to welcome it than with a taco and tequila in tow.
