new opening: barretta

K’Road’s beloved Mr Morning trades in its coffee and cafe fare for a bar trolley of boutique beer and classic pours.

It was always the intention that Mr Morning, the delightful café housed in the space next to K’Road establishment Coco’s Cantina, and helmed by the ever-lovely Coulter sisters, Renee and Damaris, would one day have a liquor license and eventually be a bar. If you’re anything like us, since the closing of Mr Morning a little over a month ago, you will have been eagerly awaiting the opening of their next venture. That day has now come. As of this coming Saturday, Mr Morning will officially have traded in its a.m. hours for p.m., and coffee for Campari as it opens its new wine bar and trattoria, Barretta.

Described as an Italian style wine bar meets Mad Men-style drinks trolley, Barretta will be serving up classic pours (strictly no cocktails here) with an emphasis on classic Italian aperitivos like Aperol and Campari, boutique bottle beers and a tight selection of Italian wines.

The dimly lit cosy interior is warm and friendly, much like Coco’s next door, and on the rainy Tuesday afternoon we popped by, it reminded us that this is exactly the kind of place you want to be settling in for an evening drink on such a day. Alongside the all important drinks menu, Barretta will be offering a range of traditional trattoria style fare such as terrine. All is not lost for fans of what was the cafe’s expertly brewed Supreme coffee, as coffee will still be available at the bar, but it will also be cleverly available cold brewed with vodka (sounds to us like it has all the makings of a perfect winter warmer).

Considering on any given day you’ll find it hard to get a table next door at Coco’s, opening a bar next door seems like a natural (and smart) next move for Renee and Damaris. While most of Coco’s loyal patrons never mind the wait, now there is every reason to pop in next door to Barretta for a quick drink pre dinner. We suspect most however, will find themselves cosied up at the new after work hot spot to settle in for more than just one. See you there.

Barretta opens this Saturday 9th June.
