new on the menu: clooney
With the change of season upon us, we head to Sale Street and rediscover a long favoured haunt.
Shaking up the Auckland dining scene back in 2006 Clooney opened its internationally inspired restaurant to great acclaim. Six years on, the award winning Fearon Hay designed interior is still proving that enduring design, delectable cuisine and efficient service are what make great restaurants stand the tests of time.
Head chef Des Harris, updates the menu frequently, making new additions to a menu strong on the signature classics that have kept the patrons returning year after year. Harris’s recent addition, the Gameford Lodge duck breast, nestled on a bed of barley malt with red fruit with licorice and radicchio, is quite simply a work of art. Succulent and tender duck meat is paired with the surprisingly complementary flavour of red fruit and licorice, making for a delightfully delicious dish.
Another worthy mention is the the Valrhona chocolate dessert; a chocolate lover’s dream. Served with fennel ice cream that perfectly offsets the richness of the chocolate, acting as a sort of palate cleanse, and cherries for their uniquely sweet and sour bite. If chocolate is your persuasion, this could well be your new indulgence.
