Look, let’s be straight. Everyone loves a decent burger. A juicy offering that fills the tummy as it soothes the soul, the comfort factor of a good old cheeseburger sits at the high 8-10 mark. So anytime a new joint opens up, we take notice. Burger Lab is the latest to snag our attention.
Sitting on the same block as Five Loaves on the ever-bustling Jervois Road, the new burger bar is offering all our old favourites, along with some intriguing new creations. There’s the classic beef burger with aged cheddar, bacon, caramelised onion, smokey barbecue sauce and aioli in a brioche bun; and the chicken teriyaki burger with daikon and miso aioli; but the standout would have to be the slow cooked pork belly that comes tucked in a housemade bao bun with Chinese spiced soy and a crisp Asian slaw. For the sides, the healthy and hearty are covered off, with salads, hot wings, sticky barbecue ribs and a trio of fries (thick, skinny and polenta) to choose from.
A casual space, there are a few tables for those wanting to dine in and a nice high bench by the window where diners can perch up and watch the world roll by. An easy stop in on the way home from work — especially considering that they take phone orders — it’s a simple dinner decision.
