the million dollar party you don’t want to miss

The who’s who of the racing world will come out to play at Ellerslie this weekend.

With the festive season having come and gone in a champagne-fuelled whirlwind, those in the know have had a taste of what the races are all about; a chance to dress to impress, sip away on a glass of bubbles under the sun and, of course, take part in some supremely fast-paced, horse-racing action.

And so it goes that we’re pleased to acknowledge the advent of The New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million —  a world class bloodstock affair that will see the who’s who of the racing world come out to play at Ellerslie next weekend. Accurately touted as New Zealand’s richest race, the namesake event involves a $1,000,000 prize ticket for whomever of the top 14 one-year-old horses from 2016’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales crosses the finish line first.

Meanwhile, the unmissable festivities that have been aptly dubbed ‘New Zealand’s Million Dollar Party’ will be in full swing as the race takes place. Chinese entertainment will ensue on-course culminating in a fireworks display that will light up the sky at 9.15pm. With plenty of hospitality packages on offer — our favourite being the Garden Party option that will see you located right opposite the winning post with a complimentary glass of Mumm in hand — it’s fair to say that this is an excellent excuse for a Sunday spent trackside.

The New Zealand Karaka Bloodstock Million will take place on Sunday 29th January. Tickets are $10 per person with children under 15 admitted free of charge. Gates open at 3pm and free parking is available. Purchase your tickets here.
