listen: the latin soul

Liven up your Thursday night plans with a little Latin soul at the Nathan Club.

If you’re looking for a way to shake up your music library then switch off the iTunes shuffle in favour of some Latin inspired flavour from Venezuelan cantante and songwriter Jennifer Zea.

Jennifer Zea’s Latin soul and Bossa nova inspired music style has had us turning off our usual playlist in favour of her upbeat and diverse sound. Having travelled the globe for the past twenty years exploring different music styles with various artists, Jennifer has been honing her craft along the way with over 100 live performances. Her nomadic lifestyle has finally led her to settle her talents here in New Zealand, where a meeting with renowned jazz musician Nathan Haines, led him to produce her latest album, launching next week.

The duo enlisted the help of a number of other musicians including top New Zealand pianists Kevin Field and Jonathan Crayford, which has resulted in a sound that has been described as having a “genuine ‘Latin’ feel with the coastal airiness characteristic of New Zealand”.

Head along and hear her exceptional new album ‘The Latin Soul’ for yourself. Moving between World and Latin jazz and a little hint of the underground scene of Kiwi music, it really is very good.

Thursday 25th May, 7pm.
