convalescence by mark crane

Wunderkammer’s Mark Crane exhibits a collection of his drawings for one evening only.

Responsible for imparting his sartorial opinions upon the finest of Auckland men at his menswear store Wunderkammer, Mark Crane’s idiosyncratic shop is full of well-edited international pieces from the likes of Ann Demeulemeester, Costume National and Comme des Garçons. However, as well as having his eye keenly focused on the very best of menswear, Mark’s other talent is drawing. It’s not very often that you come across someone who can draw a perfect circle freehand. And Mark as we have learned, is one of those people.

This Saturday 11 August, Mark is holding an exhibition of his completely hand drawn works of art. A collection of ink drawings that seem deceptively simple at first glance, are on closer inspection, decidedly intricate and complex. Often only a single unfaltering line is responsible for creating the layered mazes, hectic circle patterns and other infinite forms that look like they were developed with the help of a ruler. These are all one-of-a-kind hand drawn masterpieces.

The exhibition begins at a leisurely 3pm on Saturday afternoon and runs through to 7pm. If you’re currently searching for something utterly unique to add to your collection of art, or are partial to intriguing work that falls into the ‘more than meets the eye’ category, we suggest you make your way along on Saturday afternoon to his Ponsonby Road showroom to take in the magic of his pieces.
