top 3 places for mulled wine

A fragrant, sometimes spicy concoction, mulled wine is the perfect tipple to see us through the winter months.

Seeing as we are in the thick of winter, what better way to welcome in the crisp evenings than by sipping mulled wine with friends. Traditionally a winter drink, mulled wine is a merry combination of red wine, spices and fruit and is bound to leave you undeniably satisfied. A drinkable version of a hot water bottle if you like. With this in mind, here are 3 locations in Auckland where you can enjoy the mulled wine experience.

Tyler Street Garage
Head towards the water into the heart of the Britomart precinct and you could find yourself lured into this popular establishment when you catch a whiff of their delicious mulled wine. Made on site, their mulled wine combines homemade orange syrup, lemon peel and sugar. Add in cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon, nutmeg and a splash of ginger wine and you have yourself one delicious concoction. If you’re not one to consume a beverage without a hearty meal in tow, their pulled pork slider is a great compliment to the wine. Trust us, we know. Top it off by securing a cosy roof top lounger and try your hand at one of their in-house board games.

Coco’s Cantina
This popular Italian restaurant on Auckland’s Karangahape Road is always bustling with good vibes. Come winter, Coco’s busts out their delicious mulled wine, which is a great alternative to the usual red number when looking for a drink to partner up with one of their hearty dishes. Paired with their addictive polenta chips, it’s hard to stop at just one glass.

Golden Dawn
Completing the mulled wine trio, we ventured into Ponsonby and ended up at Golden Dawn. The indoor/outdoor nature of this space is perfect if you feel like easing into your night slowly. The multi-coloured fiesta lights draping the outdoor area transport you and your steaming glass of mulled wine somewhere other than Ponsonby. We suggest you try their Krokety number; warm potato balls with corn, coriander and paneer stuffed inside. These tasty morsels will wash your mulled wine down famously.
