Coley & Punch

This new waterfront speakeasy is one for the cocktail lovers.

With silly season upon us, we’re on the hunt for stylish new haunts to sip heavenly libations while soaking up stunning ocean vistas. One of our favoured destinations – Princess Wharf, has welcomed a promising new addition that’s catering to our needs, an upmarket cocktail and whisky bar called Coley & Punch.

The name is inspired by the head bartender at the Savoy Hotel in London, Ada Coley, who helmed the famed bar from 1903 to 1926. Coley became an iconic fixture to the time-honoured hotel’s makeup, a familiar face if not friend to the many of notable actors, celebrities and royals who visited during this glamorous era. Paying tribute to the female master mixologist, Coley & Punch is a product of the esteemed Nourish Group, having stationed themselves in a prime spot next to Euro.

The sumptuous interior features dark wood, leather and brick, being only a small part of this speakeasy’s grand appeal. The cocktail menu features Coley’s most notable cocktails, the signature being the Hanky Panky, a delightful blend of sweet vermouth, gin, Fernet Branca and the all-important orange twist. Other legendary creations include the C&P margarita, boasting house infused pineapple tequila and pink peppercorns; the Espresso Martini with citrus, vanilla and homemade gingerbread, and the Charlie Chaplin staying true to the 1920s original with its intoxicating aroma of apricots, stone fruits and strong citrus accent. Better yet, the back bar is a treasure trove of rare, aged and hard to find spirits, including a 250-strong whisky selection.

A sophisticated addition to Princess Wharf, with the sunnier clime on its way, you’ll likely find us at Coley & Punch with a divine concoction in hand, solving our pre and post dinner tipple needs against the glistening backdrop of the Hauraki Gulf.
