We discover an inner-city warehouse selling take-away boutique craft beer on tap.
Fans of craft beer will rejoice at our latest find – Hopscotch Beer Company. Located in Eden Terrace, this newly opened gem is a boutique beer warehouse that offers customers a fill-your-own bottle service. Offering a superb selection of both local and international craft beers, Hopscotch has both beer on tap as well as bottled beer available for purchase.
The space is big, and industrial, as you would expect from a warehouse located down a rather non descript side street in Auckland’s Eden Terrace. Along one wall is a row of taps that house a variety of delicious beer pours which are changed regularly (you can keep abreast of the weekly pours from Hopscotch’s website). On the occasion we visited, there was a selection of twelve different varieties of draft beer including West Coast Pale Ale, Hallertau Luxe and Liberty West Coast Blonde.
The beers can be tasted (not drunk, this is not a bar) before you choose your poison. They are then poured into 1L glass bottles that have been imported from Germany for you to take home. What is even more genius is that once you have finished your bottle of brew, you can simply pop back to Hopscotch and refill again. Our guess is that you’ll find it very hard to go back to your average six-pack!
